Alumni-interview with Götz Posner

Götz Posner has planned his career "smart": As with the project management method of the same name, he has consistently pursued his goal of working as a marketer in the IT and software sector. As his first "milestone", after completing his Bachelor's degree at Cologne Business School, he joined Brand Trust GmbH as a Brand Strategy Consultant, followed by further positions at Alpari and X-Trade Brokers DM SA. Today, as Head of Marketing and Communications CE, he is responsible for marketing and communications activities at SimCorp, a global provider of software for the financial industry.

: Why did you apply to study Media Business Administration on our campus?

Götz Posner: I was looking for a practical course with a business foundation. The focus on new media and marketing-oriented topics was also very important to me. I found both in Media Business Administration.

: What did you like best about studying at ?

Götz Posner: That the contents were presented in an extremely practical way.

: What does a typical working day look like for you today?

Götz Posner: In my position as Head of Marketing & Communications Central Europe, I focus on the long-term value-oriented marketing of service solutions in the software sector for companies that are active in investment management worldwide. I plan events, road shows, webinars, email campaigns, social media, interviews, press releases and any brand contact points where our customers and target customers come into contact with the brand. I also deal with topics such as employer branding, mentoring and coaching of employees. Fortunately, I don't have a typical working day.

: What do you like about your work?

Götz Posner: To be able to break new ground, test things and make better informed decisions for the future on the basis of the results. “Trial & Error” is the only thing that ultimately helps you in your career.

: Which typical cliché about your current position does not apply?

Götz Posner: That only women can be found in marketing. Seriously, I consider conscientiously run marketing as a "revenue engine" and not as a part of the company that deals with colors, logos and colorful flags. But it's up to the marketers themselves to get rid of these outdated clichés. Only in this way can a new dimension of raison d'être be given to the topic of "marketing".

: What are your career plans for the next few years?

Götz Posner: I'm about to change and after over 12 years in the financial services industry I'm going to change industry. I'm staying true to the IT and software sector, only the industry is changing to tourism. There I start at amadeus IT Group as Head of Global Marketing.

: How did your studies at prepare you for your current position?

Götz Posner: Learn. Ask. Do. Repeat!

: What advice would you give to prospective students?

Götz Posner: Don't just be an influencer, be the game changers of tomorrow.

: Thanks for the interview!
